Mnet's 'Produce X 101' revealed how many trainees will be making their debut.
The first episode of the idol competition show aired on May 3. After all the trainees entered the studio, MC Lee Dong Wook explained this year's system.
Based on the 'X' in 'Produce X 101,' many believed there will be 10 final members. However, Lee Dong Wook revealed the debut group will have 11 members - the same as season 2 that produced Wanna One.
However, there's a twist. The 11th member is not determined by the final ranking but by votes. The trainee that gained the greatest amount of total votes throughout the entire show will be debuting regardless of their ranking. In conclusion, the debut members will be rankings 1 to 10 plus X.
Trainees reacted positively to the new system, commenting, "In season 2, Jonghyun (NU'EST JR) sunbaenim could've debuted," "The 'X' opportunity will come if I work hard," "I personally like this system."
