The High-Ranking Officials Crime Investigation Office (CIO) and the police are deliberating over the timing of a second attempt to execute the arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk Yeol.
Due to the time required to mobilize enough personnel to outnumber the Presidential Security Service, the earliest expected date for the second attempt is the day after tomorrow. A representative from the National Police Agency's Criminal Investigation Bureau stated, "The chances of executing the arrest warrant today or tomorrow seem very low."
Instead of rushing into action, officials are refining their strategy. They aim to avoid the weekend, when large-scale protests for and against the arrest are expected and are planning the operation for a weekday to minimize public disruption and security risks.
The failed first attempt has made the second even more difficult. The Presidential Security Service is expected to deploy up to 700 personnel to safeguard the residence, requiring the police and CIO to mobilize at least 600 additional officers to ensure a successful operation. If personnel reinforcements are delayed, the operation may be pushed back beyond the anticipated date.
Oh Dong Woon, Director of the CIO, emphasized their determination, stating "We are preparing thoroughly, with the solemn resolve that this second attempt will be the final execution of the warrant."
In an effort to increase pressure, the police have sent additional summons requests to Kim Sung Hoon, Deputy Director of the Presidential Security Service, and Lee Jin Ha, Chief of Security Operations, who previously ignored appearances. This move aims to weaken internal resistance and ensure compliance.
Sources indicate that this Friday is the most likely date for the second attempt, provided that the necessary reinforcements are secured in time. However, the authorities are weighing their options carefully to avoid another failure.
