A Thai mother is continuing to wait at the airport for her daughter following the tragic plane crash.
According to the Thai Embassy in Korea and the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on December 29, two Thai nationals, a 22-year-old woman identified as 'A' and a 45-year-old woman identified as 'B,' were aboard the ill-fated flight.
'A,' a fourth-year university student from Bangkok, was traveling to Korea to reunite with her mother. Tragically, she lost her life in the crash. At the time of the accident, her mother was at the airport, eagerly waiting to welcome her daughter.
'A' had boarded the flight to Muan at 1:30 AM (local time) from Suvarnabhumi International Airport in southern Bangkok.
Her mother, who lives in Korea on a marriage migration visa after marrying a Korean national, had gone to the airport to greet her. Upon learning about the crash, she was left in shock and remains at the airport, anxiously awaiting news as authorities work to confirm the victims' identities.
Meanwhile, 'B,' the other Thai national on board, was married to a Korean man and lived in Naju, South Jeolla Province. Despite living far from her family, she would visit her hometown in Udon Thani, Thailand, once a year to see her relatives. Earlier this month, she had traveled to Thailand with her husband, who returned to Korea ahead of her. 'B' boarded the ill-fated flight alone and became one of the victims.
A representative of the Thai Embassy in Korea stated, "We are in contact with 'B’s family in Thailand, who are desperately requesting to claim her remains. Since 'B' had a marriage migration visa, we need to reach her husband, but we haven’t been able to contact him yet. We are trying to locate his contact information."
Fire authorities have confirmed 179 fatalities so far after starting their search from the rear of the aircraft. Two crew members have been rescued, and efforts are ongoing to identify additional casualties.
