The student is from Danwon High School, which tragically lost many of its second-year students back in April 2014 to the tragic Sewol Ferry incident.
The student is also suspected to be an Ilbe member. In the picture, the student is seen wearing his high school uniform and eating a fish cake on a stick. He makes a sign with his hand, which according to netizens, is the symbol for Ilbe, a notorious internet humor website where users emphasize freedom of speech and use that right to make a lot of controversy. With his hand, the student makes an '?' and '?' sign, which stands for "Ilbe."
The student uploaded the picture with the caption, "I ate my friends." According to the netizen who re-posted the picture on Instiz, the student meant that he was eating the fish that fed off his "friends" who died during the Sewol Ferry incident.
The netizen ends the post with, "Wow, seriously...," showing his/her disbelief at his picture.
The picture has since become a hot topic as netizens have commented in shock, saying, "This annoys me...," "You're saying he's human... ugh," "Wow... I'm getting goosebumps," "Why is he like that...," and, "This is the first time in my life I've seen that kind of trash."
