Actor Choi Jung Won (44), formerly of the group UN, had been accused of being the “other man” who destroyed a family through an alleged affair. However, the court has ruled in Choi’s favor. According to the ruling Choi shared on Instagram, the Seoul Family Court on November 25th KST dismissed all claims filed by A against him and ordered A to bear all litigation costs.
Previously, A—the husband of Choi’s female acquaintance B—had sued both B and Choi, claiming that Choi engaged in an affair with his wife and caused the breakdown of their marriage. A argued that Choi had contacted B, and on May 27th, 2022, drank alcohol with her alone at the Han River before taking her to his home under the pretext that he “needed to use the restroom,” alleging this constituted an extramarital relationship.
However, the court saw the situation differently. After an appellate court overturned the first ruling and sided with B in September, the latest decision gave Choi the same outcome. The ruling is not yet final, as A filed an appeal on the day of the verdict.
In response, Choi stated, “The ruling confirmed that I am not an adulterer. False claims and reckless speculation have caused misunderstandings and secondary harm. Any future spread of false information or distorted rumors will be met with legal action.”
Choi also revealed that A had been fined 3 million KRW last year for instigating intimidation and defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act. He further shocked the public by releasing an audio recording in which A referred to him and said, “A lawyer told me that when you sue a celebrity, you can usually get 30 to 40 million won, but since that bastard is a washed-up entertainer, we can pull up to 100 million won.”
Choi added, “There are also several ongoing complaints related to defamation and unlawful conduct. The meal gathering mentioned in the claims was nothing more than a casual meeting between acquaintances, and no improper relationship existed. I hope the misunderstandings and harm caused by false allegations will no longer continue.”
Meanwhile, A expressed strong opposition through his social media, writing that Choi was engaging in “mental gymnastics,” claiming the ruling was a biased “code decision” made between lawyers and judges from the same judicial group. A insisted that his divorce case was still under review by the Supreme Court and that he had already appealed the second trial in the affair lawsuit. He added, “I feel immense anger toward Choi Jung Won, who deceived the public and the victim while destroying a perfectly normal family and getting involved with a married woman. My family would still be intact if it weren’t for him.”
