Comedian and television personality Lee Kyung Kyu, often referred to as the "Godfather of Variety Shows," is currently under police investigation on suspicion of drug-impaired driving.
According to an exclusive report by MBN, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul confirmed that Lee was officially booked today (June 24) for violating the Road Traffic Act and is currently undergoing police questioning.
The case stems from an incident on June 8 around 2 PM in the Nonhyeon-dong area of Seoul, where Lee was reportedly found driving another person's vehicle. The vehicle’s owner had filed a theft report at the time, though Lee later explained that it was a misunderstanding caused by the car being the same model as his car.
During the incident, a preliminary drug screening on-site returned a positive result. A subsequent detailed analysis conducted by the National Forensic Service also confirmed the presence of drugs, with the findings submitted to Gangnam Police.
A police official stated, "Even if a substance is legally prescribed, driving under its influence is prohibited under the Road Traffic Act if it can impair a person’s ability to operate a vehicle safely." Authorities had been conducting a preliminary investigation before formally booking Lee.
Police are now examining black box footage and CCTV recordings to determine the extent of Lee’s drug-affected driving and plan to verify the allegations based on his testimony.
