On March 14, Kwon Yuri, a member of Girls' Generation and actress, opened up about her weight gain for her role in the movie 'Somebody' during her appearance on KBS Cool FM's 'Lee Eun Ji's Music Plaza.'
In the broadcast, Kwon Yuri shared that she plays a special cleaning service worker in the film. "I portray a character who cleans up after people who have passed away. It's a job that deals with the fine line between life and death, which is very different from my usual image, so I took on this role as a new challenge," she explained.
Lee Eun Ji, the host, asked if researching such an unfamiliar job was difficult and whether she made any physical changes for the role. Kwon Yuri replied, "In the latter part of the movie, I have to face off against Lee Seol. The character is cynical and rough, showing no emotional expression. To reflect that externally, I tried to change my usual image by covering my eyebrows with my bangs, giving a more serious and different look."
Kwak Sun Young, a co-star, added, "She also changed her skin tone compared to her usual self."
Kwon Yuri went on to explain that she added freckles to her appearance for the role and even gained weight to give her character a heavier presence. She revealed that she gained 7kg for her role in Somebody, while also filming the tvN drama 'Parole Examiner Lee,' which led to the weight gain.
'Somebody,' the movie, was released on March 12 and is currently being shown in theaters nationwide.
