The movie 'Somebody' is generating buzz as it prepares for its March release. Featuring an intense psychological thriller plot, the film tells the story of Yeong Eun (Kwak Sun Young), whose life is falling apart due to the strange behavior of her daughter, So Hyun. The film then jumps 20 years into the future, where Min (Yuri), having lost her memories of the past, meets Ha Young (Lee Sul), leading to a series of events that expose deep emotional fractures.
The film gained significant attention when it was officially invited to the 'Busan International Film Festival,' and has now made headlines with an impressive feat—its opening day pre-sale tickets sold out instantly. Studio Santa Claus Entertainment, the film's distributor, unveiled a still from the movie featuring Kwak Sun Young as Yeong Eun on February 18, offering a glimpse into her character.
In 'Somebody,' Kwak Sun Young plays a swimming instructor who, after divorcing her husband, raises her 7-year-old daughter So Hyun alone. As So Hyun's unsettling actions start to unravel their daily life, Yeong Eun is forced to fight to protect her daughter, showcasing her profound maternal love.
Kwak Sun Young shared her thoughts on the character, saying, “What does it mean to live a normal life? Yeong Eun believes that she can change So Hyun and tries her best, but she often faces setbacks and frustration, only to rise again.” She revealed that her deep contemplation of the character helped her bring Yeong Eun to life.
Director Lee Jeong Chan reflected on working with Kwak Sun Young, noting, “While she has a gentle nature, I felt a strong core inside her. Kwak Sun Young brought a humanistic persuasion to the Yeong Eun character.” Director Kim Ye Jung added, “She is calm, but passionate about her acting. She approaches her roles with a big-picture perspective, which is one of the reasons I’m excited to see her performance.”
As the film gears up for its release, expectations are high for the performances of Kwak Sun Young, Yuri, and Lee Sul in 'Somebody,' set to hit theaters in March.
