Lovelyz’s Mijoo makes first public appearance since breakup rumors, remains silent on the issue.
Mijoo, former Lovelyz member, attended an official event for the first time since rumors of her breakup with soccer player Song Bum Keun surfaced. However, she avoided addressing the speculation, maintaining silence on the matter.
On February 4th KST, the press conference for Mnet’s dating reality show ‘Couple Palace 2’ was held at Eliena Hotel Convention Hall in Gangnam, Seoul. The event was attended by chief producer Lee Sun Young, director Jung Min Seok, MCs Kim Jong Kook, Yoo Se Yoon, Mijoo, and three professional matchmakers.
Mijoo’s appearance drew particular attention as it marked her first public outing since her rumored breakup with Song Bum Keun. The two had publicly confirmed their relationship in April 2023, stating that they were “cautiously getting to know each other.” Mijoo was frequently seen traveling to Yokohama, Japan, where Song currently plays in the J-League, and the couple openly expressed their affection through social media posts, often referred to as “lovestagram.”
However, on January 20th, reports emerged suggesting that the couple had parted ways due to the pressure of a public relationship, choosing instead to remain on good terms. Mijoo’s agency declined to confirm the breakup, citing privacy concerns, but further speculation grew when she deleted all posts linked to their “lovestagram.”
The rumors gained further traction when Mijoo’s fellow cast members on MBC’s ‘Hangout with Yoo’ indirectly alluded to her breakup on February 2nd. During the show, Mijoo walked in alone, saying, “Don’t leave me feeling lonely.” Her colleagues responded with comforting remarks such as, “It’s okay, Mijoo.” Joo Woo Jae commented, “We have to understand that when something that was once there is now gone, it feels empty,” while Haha referenced her agency’s stance, saying, “It’s personal.”
Yoo Jae Suk also teased Mijoo about carrying a bag full of plush toys, joking, “That’s a lot of stuffed animals. This must be a reflection of your state of mind—so chaotic.” He then subtly concluded the conversation by saying, “It’s her private life, so let’s not dig too deep. We have enough to worry about ourselves.”
Despite these indirect confirmations, Mijoo has yet to publicly acknowledge or confirm the breakup. At the ‘Couple Palace 2’ press conference, reporters took the opportunity to ask her directly about the rumors. Mijoo, looking slightly flustered, responded, “Today is about ‘Couple Palace,’ so I’ll only take questions related to the show. I’m sorry and thank you for understanding.”
Meanwhile, ‘Couple Palace 2’, a large-scale dating survival show for singles seeking the perfect marriage partner, is set to premiere on February 5th at 10:40 PM KST.
