On February 6, Koo Jun yup (DJ Koo), holding the cremation urn of his late wife, Taiwanese star Barbie Hsu, returned to Taiwan. Barbie Hsu passed away from complications of pneumonia, and it is reported that Koo Jun Yup requested that the press shield his wife’s cremation urn with an umbrella to avoid startling her.
According to reports by local media including United Daily News, Liberty Times, and ETtoday, Koo Jun Yup and his family, departing from Japan's Haneda Airport on a small chartered plane, arrived at Taiwan's Songshan Airport in the northern part of Taipei at around 3 PM local time on the same day.
Despite mostly covering his face with a hat and mask, Koo Jun Yup could not hide the grief in his eyes as he stepped out of the chartered plane. It was reported that as the media approached while he was holding the pink cremation urn containing his wife’s remains, he requested, "Please cover it with an umbrella so my wife won’t be startled." Shortly after, the staff used umbrellas to shield the cremation urn.
Barbie Hsu, who had been traveling with her family in Japan, passed away on February 2 at the age of 48 due to pneumonia complications from the flu. Some have mentioned sepsis as another possible cause, based on photos of her.
There will be no funeral for the late star, as her family respects her wishes. Her younger sister, Dee Hsu, publicly stated, "She (Barbie Hsu) has safely returned home. We believe she is now happy in heaven and at peace. We will not hold a farewell ceremony for her. She was always a humble person. Please keep her in your heart. Our family is grateful for the love you have shown her."
Before her death, Barbie Hsu had once shared with friends that her ideal farewell ceremony would be one filled with joy and celebration, including her favorite champagne and delicious food. She had also asked, "Please don’t cry."
Barbie Hsu married Chinese tycoon Wang Xiaofei in 2011 and had two children, but they divorced after 10 years in 2021. In 2022, she remarried Koo Jun Yup, with whom she had rekindled a 20-year-long love story, and the couple received blessings from all. Tragically, their marriage was cut short just before their third anniversary.
