Super Junior’s Yesung expresses disappointment over SM’s 30th-anniversary concert.
Super Junior member Yesung recently shared his disappointment regarding the upcoming ‘SMTOWN LIVE 2025 in SEOUL’, SM Entertainment’s 30th-anniversary concert. Through the fan communication platform Bubble, Yesung revealed that while he plans to participate in the event, he has mixed feelings about it.
He stated, “Since it’s an event for the company I’ve been with for over 20 years, I’ll try to participate as much as I can, but I didn’t really get to contribute to the album’s music.” He added, “I’m tired of even talking about the cold treatment towards group tracks and don’t want to discuss it anymore. I’ll just focus on my concerts, so please understand.”
Yesung is the latest SM artist to express dissatisfaction, following similar remarks from Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon and Red Velvet’s Wendy regarding the concert’s planning.
SM Entertainment is set to host the event on January 11th and 12th at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul. However, it has been met with controversy as key artists like Taeyeon and Wendy will not be performing.
Wendy and Taeyeon’s perspectives
Wendy addressed her absence on the same fan platform, stating, “The discussions with the company happened over a month ago, but the announcement only came out today. I’m sorry to ReVeluvs (Red Velvet’s fandom) who were expecting a 5-member stage.”
Taeyeon also opened up about her disappointment, explaining, “I was eager to perform, prepared to do two or three songs, and told the company about it. But in the end, they didn’t prepare anything for me, so I can’t perform at all. It’s not because I didn’t want to or wasn’t motivated.”
She added, “I just want to give my best on stage because I care about it deeply. But they didn’t support me, which makes me seriously wonder what’s going on. I’m sharing this because I don’t want SONE (Girls’ Generation’s fandom) to misunderstand me.”
Taeyeon further commented on the company’s internal issues, sarcastically noting, “Apparently, the reason was that they ‘forgot’ to relay the information. I suppose that’s understandable.”
Artists lineup for the concert
Despite the absences, the concert will feature performances from various SM artists, including Kangta, BoA, TVXQ, Super Junior, Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon, SHINee’s Key and Minho, EXO’s Suho and Chanyeol, Red Velvet (Irene, Seulgi, Joy, and Yeri), NCT 127, NCT DREAM, WayV, aespa, RIIZE, NCT WISH, nævis, and Raiden.
