On the afternoon of the 22nd, the production conference for KBS2's new weekend drama 'Five Eagle Brothers' was held at the Ramada Seoul Sindorim Hotel in Guro-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by Director Choi Sang Yeol and cast members Uhm Ji Won, Ahn Jae Wook, Choi Dae Chul, Kim Dong Wan, Yoon Park, Lee Seok Gi, Park Hyo Joo, and Yoo In Young.

'Five Eagle Brothers' tells the story of a mature family navigating life at the Eagle Brewery, a long-established brewery, after the sudden death of the eldest brother just ten days after his wedding. His widow, Ma Kwang Sook (played by Uhm Ji Won), unexpectedly becomes the head of the family, leading the quirky and diverse group of five brothers.

Director Choi Sang Yeol described the inspiration behind the drama: "When I first read the script, it reminded me of the movie 'Love Actually.' While the content is different, the rich tapestry of interconnected love stories drew me in. I saw it as an opportunity to create a vibrant, comedic series about five cheerful couples."

In the drama, Uhm Ji Won portrays Ma Kwang Sook, a resilient woman who navigates family debts and tragedy while finding love with Han Dong Seok (Ahn Jae Wook), the chairman of a luxury hotel chain. Uhm praised her co-star, saying, "Ahn Jae Wook is an incredible actor who embodies Dong Seok’s charisma and strength, making our scenes lively and enjoyable."

Ahn Jae Wook, appearing in his first KBS drama in eight years, shared his excitement: "The compelling script and fast-paced development attracted me to this project. It’s a gift for viewers, offering a mix of heartfelt and lighthearted moments."

The drama also features complex and relatable family dynamics, including Choi Dae Chul’s portrayal of the second brother Oh Cheon Soo, whose budding romance with a convenience store owner (Park Hyo Joo) raises eyebrows. Addressing concerns about potential scandal, Director Choi assured, "This is a family-centered drama that emphasizes warmth and redemption. There won’t be any affairs."

Other notable cast members include Kim Dong Wan as the third brother, a Zumba instructor dreaming of a comeback; Yoon Park as the fourth brother, a single dad adjusting to fatherhood; and Lee Seok Gi as the youngest sibling, making his drama debut as a former soldier. Yoo In Young adds flair as Ji Gok Bun, a comedic K-beauty director with a romantic interest in Kim Dong Wan’s character.

Despite high expectations, recent KBS weekend dramas have struggled to achieve strong ratings. The previous show, 'Iron Family,' has yet to break 20%, leading to cautious optimism. Director Choi commented, "We hope the diverse relationships and colorful characters will captivate audiences. Even if one storyline falters, we believe others will resonate with viewers."

'Five Eagle Brothers' premieres this weekend with hopes of bringing fresh energy and charm to KBS’s lineup.
