The new tvN historical drama 'The Queen Who Crowns' has garnered significant attention since its premiere, thanks to its daring exposure and intimate scenes. Reports have confirmed that certain shots involving actress Cha Joo Young's nude body were digitally altered using CGI.

The drama 'The Queen Who Crowns' (written by Lee Young Mi, and directed by Kim Sang Ho), which premiered on the 6th as a tvN and TVING original, follows Queen Wongyeong, who seized power alongside her husband, King Taejong (Yi Bang Won). The series explores the intense and hidden stories between the king and queen, as both monarchs and a married couple.

This 12-episode series stars Cha Joo Young, Lee Hyun Wook, and Lee Sung Min. The TV broadcast version is rated 15+, while the TVING version is unedited and rated 18+ for adult audiences.

In the drama, Cha Joo Young plays Queen Wongyeong, portraying her grace and gravity as a queen with delicate nuance, enhancing the viewers' immersion. She made waves after appearing in daring bed scenes with Lee Hyun Wook, who plays Yi Bang-won, sparking heated discussions among viewers immediately after the broadcast.

The unedited TVING version includes scenes of full nudity, a bathing sequence, and explicit intimate scenes. The first and second episodes feature a consummation scene between Yi Bang Won and Queen Wongyeong, as well as a risqué bed scene involving Yi Bang Won and Wongyeong's handmaiden, Charyeong (played by Lee Yi Dam).

Cha Joo Young is shown removing her top and baring her chest in these scenes. Due to her past work in 'The Glory,' where some of her exposure scenes were edited using body doubles and CGI, viewers were curious about whether these scenes in 'The Queen Who Crowns' involved CGI or were real performances.

According to Newsen on January 13, it was confirmed that certain exposed body parts shown in 'The Queen Who Crowns' were digitally enhanced to align with the director’s intention to deeply portray the political and marital relationship between Wongyeong and Yi Bang Won.

Meanwhile, 'The Queen Who Crowns' achieved impressive ratings, with the first episode recording an average of 5.1% and a peak of 5.9% in the Seoul metropolitan area (based on paid platforms). The second episode recorded an average nationwide rating of 5.5% and peaked at 6.9%, with a 5.3% average and a 6.7% peak in the metropolitan area, taking the top spot in its time slot across cable and general service channels.

The drama also performed strongly in the 20-49 demographic, tvN's key target audience, achieving a national rating of 1.8% and a metropolitan rating of 1.7%, ranking first across all channels, including terrestrial networks.

This marks the first time a tvN Monday-Tuesday drama exceeded 5% in premiere ratings since 'Marry My Husband' aired in January last year. Additionally, 'The Queen Who Crowns' ranked first in the number of new paid subscribers on TVING on the day of its release.
