Rapper San E (real name Jung San, 39) has been transferred to the prosecution on charges of special assault, roughly five months after being booked by the police over an assault involving a passerby.
On January 22, the Seoul Mapo Police announced that San E was sent to the prosecution on January 10 without detention. Meanwhile, his father, identified as 'A,' who was also involved in the incident and booked at the same time, had his case closed after reaching a settlement with the victim. The victim expressed no intention to pursue charges, leading to the case’s resolution under the "non-punishment upon objection" regulation.
The incident occurred on July 28, 2024, around 8:30 PM near the entrance of a park in Seoul’s Mapo District. San E allegedly assaulted a passerby, identified as 'B,' using a cell phone and other objects after reportedly telling them to “handle your bicycle properly.” The police booked San E in August of the same year.
Passerby 'B' claimed to have sustained injuries near their eye and damage to some teeth. Following a police response to the scene, initial investigations were conducted, and both parties were sent home. 'B' was also booked for mutual assault but had their case resolved alongside San E’s father’s case during the settlement process.
San E’s side previously commented on the matter, stating, “We have no further statements to make. We apologize.”
San E debuted in 2010 under a major entertainment label and became widely recognized as a producer on the popular audition program 'Show Me the Money.' This incident marks a significant controversy in his career despite his earlier success.
