Park Chan Wook wraps filming for his new movie ‘No Other Choice’.

Director Park Chan Wook has completed filming his latest movie, ‘No Other Choice’, on January 15th, after approximately five months of production.

This project marks a long-awaited reunion between Park Chan Wook and Lee Byung Hun, who previously collaborated on ‘Joint Security Area’ and ‘Three, Monster’. It also features Lee Byung Hun’s first on-screen partnership with Son Ye Jin. The cast includes a roster of trusted stars such as Park Hee Soon, Lee Sung Min, Yeom Hye Ran, Cha Seung Won, and Yoo Yeon Seok, raising expectations for the film.

In ‘No Other Choice’, Lee Byung Hun portrays Man Soo, a man who loses his job at a paper company after 25 years of service and struggles to re-enter the workforce. Son Ye Jin plays Mi Ri, a wife who steps up for her family in the wake of her husband’s unexpected unemployment. The story delves into their efforts to protect their home and family while navigating the harsh realities of life.

The film explores themes of resilience and family amidst economic adversity. The first stills from the film, featuring Lee Byung Hun and Son Ye Jin, hint at a fresh and dynamic on-screen chemistry.

The filming began on August 17, 2024, and concluded after 85 shooting days. Reflecting on the journey, director Park Chan Wook shared:

“I began writing this screenplay about 17 years ago. It feels surreal to have finally completed filming. I’m grateful that everything proceeded as planned, and I will pour my heart into post-production to create a film that everyone involved can take pride in.”

The cast also expressed their excitement:

• Lee Byung Hun: “Working with the director felt like collaborating with an old friend. The extensive discussions and exchange of ideas enriched the film. I’ve never been more eager to see the finished product than I am with this project.”

• Son Ye Jin: “The time passed so quickly. As a fan of Park Chan Wook and Lee Byung Hun, it’s been an incredible experience to be part of this project. I’m confident that an amazing film is on its way, and I can’t wait to share it with the audience.”

‘No Other Choice’ delves into the life of a contented company worker whose world is turned upside down after being suddenly laid off. The story highlights his battle to protect his family, his hard-earned home, and his quest for re-employment.

The film reunites the creative vision of Park Chan Wook, known for masterpieces like ‘Decision to Leave’, ‘The Handmaiden’, ‘Sympathy for Lady Vengeance’, and ‘Oldboy’, with a powerhouse cast led by Lee Byung Hun and Son Ye Jin.

The blend of Park Chan Wook’s meticulous storytelling, Lee Byung Hun’s transformative performances, and Son Ye Jin’s heartfelt acting promises an emotionally gripping narrative. As post-production begins, audiences eagerly await what could be another cinematic triumph from one of Korea’s most acclaimed directors.
