Hyun Bin’s Harbin close to surpassing 3 million… Maintaining the top spot for 8 days
The movie Harbin is expected to easily surpass 3 million viewers this week.
According to the integrated computer network of the Korean Film Council on January 1, Harbin recorded a cumulative audience of 2,755,267 by attracting 212,408 viewers on 1,526 screens on December 31 last year, maintaining its top spot at the box office.
Bogota: Land of Last Chance, which premiered on the same day, drew 97,296 viewers, bringing its cumulative audience to 109,480 and securing second place at the box office. Meanwhile, Firefighter attracted 55,181 viewers, with a cumulative audience of 3,317,317, taking third place. Civil War: Age of Divided debuted in fourth place by adding 22,040 viewers on its first day of release, while Mufasa: The Lion King ranked fifth with 21,669 viewers, bringing its total audience to 656,685.
Harbin is considered one of the most anticipated films of the year-end season. It is a new production by Hive Media Corp., the company behind last year’s 10-million-viewer hit Spring of Seoul. Director Woo Min-ho, who helmed the film, collaborated with Hive Media Corp. once again, following their successful projects since Inside Men.
The film, which premiered on Christmas Eve, recorded an opening score of 380,000 viewers, surpassing the opening numbers of the blockbuster Avatar 2. It reached 1.25 million viewers within just two days of the Christmas holiday and surpassed 2 million viewers on its fifth day. This rapid pace of popularity outperformed the 10-million-viewer The day 12.12 (which took six days) and matched the speed of Avatar: The Way of Water, generating even more interest.
Having already exceeded 2.75 million viewers, Harbin is certain to surpass 3 million by tomorrow (January 2) at the latest, with expectations of reaching 4 million by this weekend.
Meanwhile, Harbin (directed by Woo Min-ho, provided and distributed by CJ ENM, and produced by Hive Media Corp.) portrays the intense pursuit and suspicion among those heading to Harbin for a shared purpose and those chasing them in 1909. The film revolves around the assassination of Ito Hirobumi by General Ahn Jung-geun (played by Hyun Bin) and independence activists during the Japanese colonial period.
