ADOR has filed for an injunction to prohibit the members of NewJeans from signing advertising contracts independently, emphasizing the preservation of their agency status.

According to ADOR on January 13, the agency recently submitted the injunction request to the Seoul Central District Court.

This legal action aims to affirm that ADOR remains the management company under an exclusive contract until the first trial of the Confirmation of Validity of Exclusive Contract lawsuit, which ADOR filed on December 3, 2024. The injunction seeks to prevent NewJeans members from independently signing advertising contracts or engaging in promotional activities without ADOR’s prior approval or consent.

ADOR explained, “This decision was made to prevent confusion and potential harm to third parties, such as advertisers, as the NewJeans members, who unilaterally declared the termination of their exclusive contracts, continue to contact advertisers and attempt to sign contracts independently.”

The agency further stated, “This injunction reflects ADOR’s intention to work with the NewJeans members” and expressed concerns that even if a future court ruling confirms the validity of the exclusive contract, it may become impossible to restore the original state if the members’ independent activities continue.

ADOR emphasized, “We have consistently supported all personnel and facilities for NewJeans’ entertainment activities, maintaining the position that the exclusive contract is valid. We plan to continue providing full support moving forward.”

The agency also revealed that it is actively receiving offers for projects such as advertisements and events. It has internally finalized plans for NewJeans’ activities this year, including the release of a regular album and a fan meeting. ADOR expressed its willingness to communicate with the New Jeans members to facilitate these activities.

ADOR’s Full Statement:

Last week, ADOR filed an injunction with the Seoul Central District Court to “preserve the status of the agency and prohibit the signing of independent advertising contracts.”

This injunction aims to confirm ADOR’s status as the management company under the exclusive contract until the first trial of the Confirmation of Validity of Exclusive Contract lawsuit filed on December 3, 2024. It also seeks to prevent the New Jeans members from independently entering into advertising contracts or engaging in promotional activities without ADOR’s consent.

The reason for filing this injunction is to prevent confusion and damage to third parties, such as advertisers, as the members of NewJeans, who unilaterally declared the termination of their exclusive contracts, have continued to contact advertisers independently.

ADOR is confident that the members’ unilateral termination of the exclusive contracts is unjust, a claim it will prove through its pending lawsuit. However, as the final ruling may take considerable time, the agency has filed this injunction as an urgent measure to prevent ongoing confusion and damage.

“This injunction reflects ADOR’s intention to work with NewJeans,” the agency stated. “If the members’ independent activities continue, it could harm the brand value of NewJeans, our only artist, and lead to a management crisis for ADOR.”

The agency also raised concerns about the broader implications for the industry, stating, “If a precedent is set where artists can unilaterally terminate their contracts and independently engage in entertainment activities without legal procedures, it will discourage investment in the entertainment industry, destabilize the K-pop market, and shrink its growth significantly.”

ADOR reiterated its commitment to supporting NewJeans, stating that it has provided all necessary personnel and resources for the group’s entertainment activities and intends to continue doing so. The agency has already completed plans for NewJeans’ 2025 activities, including a regular album release and a fan meeting, and hopes to communicate with the group to move forward collaboratively.
