Actress and voice actress Jang Mija has passed away at the age of 84. Jang Mija was best known for her passionate performances, particularly as a mother-in-law in the drama 'Couple Clinic - Love and War.'
According to the Korean Broadcasting Actors’ Union on the 27th, Jang Mija passed away on this day due to a chronic illness. Her husband, voice actor and actor Park Woong, and their two sons are receiving visitors at the funeral home.
Jang Mija began her acting career in 1959 with stage performances. In 1963, she joined DBS Dong-A Broadcasting as part of its first generation of voice actors, which later became classified as KBS’s sixth generation due to media consolidation.
Over her illustrious 66-year career, she was beloved by audiences for her roles in dramas such as 'The Second Republic,' 'Love and War,' 'Man in Crisis,' 'Sons of Sol Pharmacy,' 'Dazzling,' and 'Kingderland.'
Jang Mija was also deeply involved in theater. She was a member of the Theater Actors’ Association and led the theater company 'Samgaksan' during her lifetime. She delivered memorable performances in plays like 'The Bird That Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,' 'Drying Peppers,' 'Golden Pond,' and 'Human Time.'
She frequently shared the stage with her husband, Park Woong, co-starring in productions such as 'Living in Golden Pond' and 'Dancing Silver Portrait,' showcasing her ensemble acting skills.
The funeral home has been set up at Seoul National University Hospital Funeral Hall 4. The funeral service will take place at 6:00 AM on the 29th, and the burial will be at Seoul City Crematorium.
