A South Korean politician has drawn widespread attention online after purchasing an idol lightstick to join a rally opposing President Yoon Seok Yeol.
Hundreds of thousands gathered across Seoul for the rallies, which began on Wednesday, K-pop fans brought their lightsticks instead of the traditional candles. Lightsticks, associated with numerous K-pop fandoms, are known for their bright, colorful lights and unique designs that represent specific groups or artists. To join this trend, politician Lee Hoon Gi shared on social media X (formerly Twitter) that he had purchased a Stray Kids' lightstick.
He explained, "This is not from the Danggeun (resale) market but it's an official merchandise bought from JYP Shop. I'm a father of two daughters. So of course, it's Stray Kids. I didn't write in the content but I know the hashtag StrayKids."
He added, "@Stray_Kids Is this what Hashtags are?"
