Park Myung Soo pays tribute to Jeju Air tragedy victims.
On the December 31st KST broadcast of KBS Cool FM’s ‘Park Myung Soo’s Radio Show’, host Park Myung Soo opened with heartfelt condolences for the victims of the recent Jeju Air tragedy.
“This is the last day of the year,” Park began with a somber tone. “Although it’s a heavy and melancholic end to the year, I hope today becomes a moment where we can express gratitude and support to one another.”
The Jeju Air flight 7C2216, en route from Bangkok to Muan International Airport, suffered a catastrophic crash during its landing attempt on December 29th. The accident resulted in 179 fatalities, with only two crew members surviving. In response, the government declared a weeklong national mourning period from December 29th to January 4th.
Park joined others in the entertainment industry who are marking the tragedy with changes to programming, such as postponed broadcasts of dramas and variety shows. He acknowledged the difficulty of maintaining his usual lively tone during this period, saying, “It’s been a tumultuous year. The year-end should bring a sense of closure, but the heartbreaking events have left many in pain. During times like these, we must gather even more strength.”
Addressing listeners who shared their own end-of-year reflections, Park encouraged positivity for the year ahead. To a listener who mentioned cleaning their store, he responded, “We must embrace the new year with hope. I’m confident that better things will come in 2025.”
Park also reflected on the challenge of balancing his duty as a host with the somber atmosphere. “It feels wrong to ask how everyone is doing,” he admitted. “I want to bring energy to the broadcast, but I know this isn’t the time for that. I hope you all understand.”
Earlier on December 30th, Park had also expressed his condolences, saying, “Yesterday’s tragic news left us all grieving. I send my heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives and to their families. During these times, mutual support and comfort are more important than ever.”
