Recently, news that EVERGLOW’s Mia pre-paid for coffee for those attending a protest calling for President Yoon Suk Yeol's impeachment has garnered much attention on social media and online communities.
Through EVERGLOW’s official fan community, Mia shared a message that read, “Is anyone going out to the (impeachment) protest today? It’s cold, so make sure to dress warmly.” She also revealed that she had pre-paid for drinks at a nearby cafe for participants.
Following Mia’s initiative, a "pre-payment relay" began among her fans. Inspired by her gesture, more netizens began pre-paying for coffee to support those braving the cold weather to participate in the protest. Mia is the first K-pop idol known to have directly taken part in this kind of support effort.
Musical actor Kang Ki Doong also announced on social media that he had pre-paid for 50 cups of coffee at his fan cafe. He shared a heartfelt message, saying, “Thank you for your kind hearts. Thanks to you, I also feel warmth. Please take care of your health, everyone.”
Following Kang Ki Doong’s action, one of his fans anonymously pre-paid for an additional 100 cups of coffee, further continuing the heartwarming chain of support.
Meanwhile, on December 7, during the National Assembly's plenary session where votes were scheduled for both the "Special Prosecutor Act for Kim Keon Hee" and the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk Yeol, lawmakers from the People Power Party only participated in the vote for the special prosecutor act. After that, 107 members of the party, excluding Representative Ahn Cheol Soo, exited the assembly hall.
As a result, only 195 out of the 300 members of the National Assembly participated in the vote on President Yoon’s impeachment motion, falling short of the required quorum of 200. Consequently, the vote was automatically nullified due to the lack of a sufficient number of participants.
