Former IZ*ONE member and singer Lee Chae Yeon garnered attention by sharing her thoughts on the ongoing political situation regarding President Yoon Suk Yeol's impeachment, which led to a critical response from Chung Yoo Ra, the daughter of Choi Seo Won (formerly Choi Soon Sil).
On November 8, Chung Yoo Ra took to her Facebook to criticize Lee Chae Yeon, saying, "It’s true that being in a certain position doesn’t matter when talking about politics, but the problem is suddenly chiming in after showing zero interest all this time, just like you’re doing now."
Chung Yoo Ra continued her critique, saying, "Get a grip. Do you even know a single thing about how the Democratic Party has wrecked the budget before you start talking?" She went on to accuse the Democratic Party of "pressuring government agencies over the budget and engaging in legislative gangster tactics," which she likened to "communism."
Chung Yoo Ra further criticized celebrities, stating, "Celebrities always get swept up in propaganda without even checking the facts, and they never take responsibility for the mess they make."
She ended her tirade by directing a sharp rebuke at Lee Chae Yeon: "If you want to speak freely, then make sure you know what you're talking about."
Meanwhile, Lee Chae Yeon shared her thoughts with fans on the latest political controversy on December 7. She stated, "Am I not in a position to talk about politics? As a citizen and as a member of the public, I’ll do as I see fit. I’ll decide what I want to talk about, too. I’m a celebrity, and that’s why I’m using my voice."
She acknowledged the concerns of her fans, saying, "I know very well that people worry about idols making these kinds of statements. But I’m also a citizen."
Lee Chaeyeon concluded with a message of hope and unity, stating, "Thank you so much for your concern. Let’s all live in a better world. And in that world, let’s love each other as much as we want."
