Jo Se Ho opened up about his obsession with the need to be recognized.
On the November 13 episode of tvN’s 'You Quiz on the Block,' Kim Joo Hwan, a professor at Yonsei University, made an appearance as a special guest. During this episode, the professor spoke of human desires.
He explained, “Training the 'mind-muscle' involves stabilizing the amygdala and activating the prefrontal cortex. The amygdala is associated with processing emotions; it activates when we feel anxious, fearful, tense, or annoyed. When the amygdala is frequently activated, negative thinking can intensify,” elaborating on his field of expertise.
Professor Kim continued, “The need for recognition is a positive thing. However, there’s something called recognition addiction, where one becomes dependent on receiving recognition. Celebrities, in particular, are vulnerable to this because they rely on public approval.”
In response, Jo Se Ho confessed, “I have a strong desire to be recognized. Even though I’ve been in this career for a long time, I didn’t gain popularity until later in my career, so I have a bit of an inferiority complex. Even when I don’t have work, I want to appear successful, so I buy expensive clothes. I convince myself, ‘I’m a successful person,’ which leads me to buy pricey clothes that I don’t even end up wearing,” sharing his thoughts candidly.
