At a recent performance at the Grand Mint Festival, F.T. Island’s Hongki opened up to fans about his feelings on the recent controversy surrounding drummer Minhwan. As previously reported, Minhwan is currently being investigated by police for allegations of soliciting prostitution, and as a result is currently on hiatus from all media activities. The group is currently promoting as just two members, Hongki and Jaejin.
Previously, member Hongki had made comments expressing his support for Minhwan and suggesting that fans should wait for more information on the controversy before making up their minds, stating “We shouldn't believe everything too easily.”
Now, Hongki has briefly shared more of his feelings on the situation. At the end of a recent music festival performance, Hongki indirectly spoke about the controversy, stating: “It's so f***ing unfair. It feels like the f***ing world is against me. But I will continue to make music until I die.”
In response, the audience at the festival turned on their phone flashlights and cheered for Hongki and Jaejin.
Hongki’s brief statement resulted in yet more criticism from netizens for his continued support of Minhwan, and for his cursing at a music festival:
“So he’s even cursing in front of his own fans now?”
“As the group’s leader, this is not something you should be saying in front of fans”
“Who’s stopping him from making music?”
“It seems like a normal person wouldn’t curse on stage like this”
“If someone who doesn't know about the situation sees this, they'll think Hongki is the one who caused the team to fail… He’s acting like he got screwed over”
“If he had just said nothing this whole time, people would still be cheering him on”
“But he’s also a victim of this incident. Aren't there two people left in the group? It seems like they've both been robbed”
"Why is he cursing like that at a festival? It's not a solo concert. The audience must be shocked"
"Wow, why is he venting his anger on the audience? What's so unfair? Just come out and say everything properly and don't threaten your fans"
"He's so immature. There really aren't any idols who use foul language in front of their fans. The more comfortable you are, the more polite you should be"
"I really hate when someone swears on stage... I feel bad for the audience who had to listen to that. They didn't even come to see F.T. Island"
"Seems like the situation really isn't unfair, just rather depressing"
"Hongki, you still haven't gotten rid of your arrogance.. You're getting older, so you should grow up a bit"
