After approximately 2 weeks of furious fan voting, the '16th Melon Music Awards' is now just hours away, occurring later this evening on November 30 beginning at 5 PM KST.
One award which has caused the most stir among rivaling fandoms is the 'Best Male Group' award. And now that voting has officially closed, it's predicted that the winner of the 'Best Male Group' of 2024 will be decided by a difference of only 0.017 points, based on the chart below.
SM Entertainment boy group RIIZE and virtual idol group PLAVE will be competing for the final trophy, which is decided by combining scores from digital streams and downloads on Melon (60%), fan votes (20%), and judging (20%). So far, with RIIZE in the lead by 0.017 points, fans have projected that it is "too close to call", and that it will ultimately be up to the 'MMA' judges to determine the winner.
Many netizens were shocked by the neck and neck competition, commenting, "I've never seen the difference being in the decimal digits", "Both fandoms worked so hard!", "Just give it to them both!", "Congratulations to whoever! It wouldn't be weird for either team to win it at this point", "The fact that one group won't get it makes me sad, knowing how hard both of these groups and their fans have worked this year", and more.
Meanwhile, both RIIZE and PLAVE will be attending the '16th Melon Music Awards' along with ATEEZ, BOYNEXTDOOR, TWS, (G)I-DLE, aespa, IVE, tripleS, QWER, BIBI, Lee Young Ji, Christopher, and YOASOBI.
The ceremony will be streamed live via the Melon app (South Korea), U-NEXT (Japan), and on the YouTube channel 1theK.
