There are claims that Jessi, the singer mixed up in a controversy over the recent assault case against a fan, actually had the contact information (phone number) for the assailant 'A.' In her apology statement, Jessi stated she didn't know who the assailant was.
On October 22, former entertainment industry reporter turned YouTuber Lee Jin Ho released a video titled "Jessi's Lies Exposed... Why Did the Attacker Reach Out?" on his channel, where he delved into the incident involving Jessi's entourage and the assault on a fan.
According to the video, one of Jessi’s associates, producer Koala, had threatened the fan who had requested a photo. Although CCTV footage shows Jessi trying to stop Koala, another member of her group later approached the fan and punched him in the face. After witnessing the assault, Jessi left the scene, which later led to the release of the CCTV footage and Jessi being called in for police questioning. Jessi initially claimed, “I have no connection to the assailant. He’s just a friend of my producer.”
Though Jessi did not directly participate in the assault and even tried to stop it, many were disappointed that she left the scene without trying to help the fan. Lee Jin Ho explained that Jessi’s decision to leave might have stemmed from a 2013 incident in Itaewon where she was caught up in a similar case, despite not being involved in the violence. Since then, Jessi has reportedly avoided any situation that even hinted at a conflict.
However, Lee Jin Ho alleges that Jessi later rejoined her group and even attended a drinking party with the assailant. This has raised concerns about how the situation was handled after the incident. Lee Jin Ho stated that Koala invited 50 to 60 acquaintances to a bar in Apgujeong for a party, which both Jessi and the assailant attended.
The video also touched on Koala's past, mentioning rumors about his alleged involvement with the LA Korean gang, the "Korean Outlaws," and suspicions that the assailant may be associated with the Chinese Triads. Jessi had previously stated that she met the assailant for the first time that night, but Lee Jin Ho clarified that, while Jessi may not have known everyone at the gathering, it would be hard to believe her statement.
What emerged as a critical issue, however, is that after the incident, the assailant reportedly left South Korea, making it difficult to track him down. Lee Jin Ho mentioned that Koala and Jessi would be the two people most likely to know the assailant’s whereabouts. He also alleged that the assailant had contacted Jessi following the incident and revealed his identity and contact information. Despite this, it remains unclear why Jessi did not take more action on behalf of the victim.
Lee Jin Ho also discussed Jessi's recent contract termination with her former agency DOD. The assault took place on September 29, but the news didn’t break until October 11. Although Jessi’s agency initially tried to manage the situation, things reportedly changed after Jessi was questioned by the police on October 16. It was also noted that the agency’s statement regarding her contract termination was unusual, as it was said to be at Jessi’s request.
Lee Jin Ho further mentioned that Jessi's social circle and the people she hangs out with have been significant issues. He revealed that Jessi had recently purchased a house for 4 billion KRW (~2.9 million USD), taking out a 2 billion KRW (~1.5 million USD) loan, which represented the result of her 20 years working in Korea. She had been focusing on interior renovations, but the project was halted due to the ongoing scandal.
The controversy involving Jessi began on September 29, when a fan, who was reportedly a minor, approached the singer in Apgujeong to ask for a photo. During the encounter, one of the men in Jessi's group allegedly assaulted the fan. Although Jessi initially denied any connection between her group and the assailant, the victim maintained that the attacker was indeed part of Jessi's entourage. As the incident gained public attention, Jessi was called in for police questioning at the Gangnam Police Station on October 16.
