A fan reportedly spent 63 million won ($45,541 USD) on a Seventeen event that lasted 9 minutes.
According to reports, the sunglasses brand Speculum hosted a meet and greet event open to 50 lucky consumers. Fans were able to meet Jeonghan and THE8, who are models for the brand, and one fan reportedly spent 63 million won on a chance to see their favorite idols. However, according to Seventeen's fan union, the event was not held properly, and the brand has been avoiding complaints from fans as well.
Those who purchased from the brand between this past September 9 and 10 were eligible for a lucky draw to attend the event, and as higher purchases meant a higher chance of winning, it was claimed one of the fans in the fan union spent 63 million won.
Jeonghan and THE8 allegedly only appeared at the event for a total of 9 minutes compared to other events that normally lasted between 30 minutes to an hour. A special video that was supposed to air for the winners was also reportedly not aired. As a result, fans were left highly disappointed.
It was also alleged that though there were only supposed to be 50 winners, the brand suddenly added Chinese consumers to the winners list as well as influencers. The influencer event took place right before the winners' event, and it was said they received more time than the winners.
Netizens commented, "Isn't this the organizer's problem?" "That company's revenue is so low. Why are they using Seventeen as models?" "This is my first time hearing that brand," "It's almost like a money laundering company," and more.
