Chun Woo Hee shines at Busan International Film Festival’s ‘Actor’s House’ with her sincere approach to acting and life.
On October 6th KST, actress Chun Woo Hee graced the stage at the ‘Actor’s House’ event held at the Culture Hall of Shinsegae Department Store in Haeundae, Busan. As part of the 29th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), the event provided an in-depth reflection on her filmography. ‘Actor’s House’ debuted in 2021 as a special BIFF program, and this year, Chun Woo Hee joined the ranks of other notable actors such as Seol Kyung Gu, Park Bo Young, and Hwang Jung Min, closing the series.
Chun Woo Hee greeted the audience, which filled the venue to capacity, with a calm and friendly demeanor. She expressed her gratitude, saying, “I’m thankful to have this opportunity in my 20th year as an actor. Though I started with little, I’m proud of myself for persevering.”
During the conversation, Chun reflected on her career, discussing significant works such as ‘Han Gong Ju,’ ‘Sunny,’ ‘The Wailing,’ ‘Idol,’ ‘Anchor,’ and the drama ‘Be Melodramatic,’ as well as her more recent global projects ‘Not a Hero’ and ‘The Eight Show.’ She delved into her journey as an actress, exploring how she has expanded her range across genres and characters.
When asked by an audience member about her criteria for selecting roles, Chun Woo Hee explained, “I often say, ‘Salvation comes from within,’ but in hindsight, I’ve taken on many roles where I am either saving someone or being saved by someone. Reflecting on these choices, I realize that love and solidarity are important to me, and perhaps my subconscious is drawn to these values when selecting projects.”
Responding to a question about her goals as an actress, she shared, “I’ve been lucky with my name—people often call me ‘the face of a thousand expressions’ because of my surname, Chun. I hope to become an actress whose spectrum is as limitless as that title suggests.” She added, “I want to boldly take on various genres and characters and continue growing as an actress.”
When the moderator asked how she balances her personal life with her acting career, Chun Woo Hee answered, “I don’t separate actress Chun Woo Hee from the person Chun Woo Hee. For both, sincerity and authenticity are the most important. While some may believe that artists thrive on intense emotions and instinctive energy, I think artistry comes from how well we can control that energy. I have a deep respect for craftsmanship, and I believe there’s beauty in refining oneself over time. I hope to become that kind of person, always striving with sincerity and constant effort.”
