Kim Taehyung, aka V of BTS, has captured the hearts of Japanese music fans, reaching a significant milestone with his solo album.
On October 10, Taehyung's first solo album, Layover, was awarded Platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) for cumulative shipments exceeding 250,000 copies in Japan alone.
Released on September 8 last year, Taehyung's first solo album Layover immediately took the No. 1 spot on Japan's Oricon "Daily Album Ranking" chart, with 221,491 copies sold on the day of its release.
According to Oricon "Annual Ranking 2023," Layover ranked 16th on the "Album Ranking" with a total of 247,826 copies sold, achieving the highest ranking for a K-pop solo artist in Japan.
Last month, according to the "Daily Album Ranking" chart released by Japan's Oricon on September 30, the vinyl (LP) version of Layover debuted at No. 1 upon its release in Japan. It also ranked No. 1 on Amazon Japan's imported album sales ranking and the latest imported album sales ranking.
Layover is an album that reflects the personal charm of Kim Taehyung. It symbolizes a moment of rest to reflect on the journey so far and to revisit one's final destination.
Meanwhile, Taehyung enlisted in the military last December, and his expected discharge date is June 10, 2025.
