‘1 Night 2 Days’ under fire for ignoring junior writer’s struggle, removes controversial footage.
A recent episode of the KBS 2TV variety show ‘1 Night 2 Days Season 4’ aired on October 6th KST, featuring a controversial “manners test” involving the cast. The production team tested the cast’s reactions by showing a junior staff carrying heavy watermelons in both hands, observing whether the cast members would offer help.
While cast member Moon Se Yoon helped the writer and asked, “How far do you plan to carry this heavy load?” the rest of the cast did not assist.
Kim Jong Min noticed the watermelons and asked, “Whose are these?” before walking away, later justifying his actions by saying, “I thought it would be overstepping if I offered to help since it wasn’t my own.” Yoo Seon Ho asked if the writer was okay but did not help, explaining afterward, “We were almost there, so I thought it was unnecessary.”
Neither DinDin, Lee Joon, nor Jo Se Ho offered assistance. Lee Joon, in particular, commented, “If I’m being honest, I didn’t notice it, but even if I had, I wouldn’t have helped. If she had really struggled, I would have, but she seemed to be walking fine, and I thought helping might make it more awkward.”
After the episode aired, viewers expressed disappointment in the cast’s behavior. Many pointed out, “Even if it doesn’t look heavy, they could have at least asked if she needed help,” and criticized the cast, saying, “Are celebrities the new aristocracy?” and “It’s only natural to help out a fellow crew member carrying something heavy.”
Some viewers also criticized the production team, questioning the intent behind this test. “Was the point of this hidden camera just to make the cast look bad?” was a common sentiment online.
As the controversy grew, the production team of ‘1 Night 2 Days’ removed the related footage from both the KBS website and YouTube. The production team has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.
