On September 14, global girl group Red Velvet returned to the Philippines for their ‘HAPPINESS : My Dear, ReVe1uv’ fan concert tour (presented by Wilbros Live). This is their third group visit since pandemic after the ‘BE YOU’ event in 2022 and their ‘R to V’ solo concert in 2023.
Irene, Joy, Seulgi, and Wendy opened the set with their lively performance of their debut song, “Happiness.” They were later joined by Yeri on stage, following her solo dance performance, for “Ice Cream Cake,” bringing back memories for fans who have had witnessed the group’s journey from their originally four-member debut to the addition of Yeri for ‘Ice Cream Cake,’ their first mini-album.
“It’s been a while since we met. We missed you all,” they said. “We’re so happy that we were able to see Luvies in the Philippines again,” said Wendy. Seulgi added that the fans' energy was amazing: “I was surprised.” “You have the best cheers. You are the best,” exclaimed Joy.
During one of the segments, the girls picked up some questions and messages from the fans. One asked them if a song that they wished was theirs, and Red Velvet answered EXO’s “Ko Ko Bop.” Seulgi then picked a message from a fan who mentioned her photo exhibit: “First of all, I think there’s a photo album. So you can see my photos too, right? I’m not really sure what to spoil, but please show lots of interest and support!”
Joy, on the other hand, read a letter from a fan, saying that they have been following Red Velvet since middle school, and now they are graduating from college, which touched the members. “There are performances you were able to witness after a long time. I was able to look back on those 10 years,” said Seulgi. “We can really feel your energy,” Yeri told the audience.
ReVeluvs (fandom name) then surprised Joy with a huge banner in front of them that read “Thank you for being our Joy! Soo Young-ah, happy birthday!” The fans then sang her a happy birthday together. “I was surprised you are still celebrating my birthday. When I was performing, I was touched and I got emotional. Thank you,” she said.
“Aside from the fact that it’s our 10th anniversary, we also want to treasure the moments with our Luvies,” said Seulgi. The members also expressed their gratitude to the fans who prepared a lot of projects for them.
Red Velvet also performed their hit tracks “Bad Boy,” “Psycho,” “Feel My Rhythm,” “Queendom,” and “Red Flavor.” “Sunny Afternoon,” “Underwater,” “Knock Knock (Who’s There?),” and “My Dear,” among others, were also included in the setlist. The quintet ended the three-hour show with “Zimzalabim” and “Hit That Drum.”
Wendy: ”We went back here to Manila after one year but nothing changed. When the stage opened for ‘Happiness,’ I was really surprised by your cheers. From the start up to this point, time really flew so fast. I didn't feel it. The reason why I'm feeling this way is because you guys really make me so happy. Thank you for always supporting us all time with a lot of love. I hope we can visit you more often. We promise you guys we’ll come back here in Manila as five of us. I'm happy that we made that promise. Thank you for all the support that you send us.”
Irene: “Before the show started, I feel like this venue might shake [because of your cheers]. So I was thinking backstage, ’Where’s the noise coming from?’ I was really curious. I thought, ‘What happened?’ Then when I went on stage, I saw that there's really a lot of you. Your cheers were amazing while we were performing on stage. How can I be happier? I'm super happy. Thank you so much for your time and effort as well as the memory we created tonight.”
Yeri: “Thank you for your gifts and for the unforgettable and treasurable memories. This tour isn’t easy physically. But because of the positive cheers you gave us, I became super happy while I was performing on stage. ‘Loving you is the easiest thing I have ever done [reading the fan’s banner].’ Thank you so much.”
Joy: “It was so fun in Manila. I really didn't feel tired because of your loud cheers and your smiles that gave me positive energy. Thank you. To all the Manila Luvies, thank you for the unforgettable memory and for the beautiful concert.”
Seulgi: “Today was so fun. A while ago while we were rehearsing, no one was here. I was thinking, ‘Will there be people filling up the third and fourth floors as well?’ Now, it's so full from the first to the fourth floor. So when we went out on stage, I was really surprised. I really got goosebumps during the ‘rock the world’ part [first verse of ‘Happiness’ where the fans sang along]. Thank you to all Manila Luvies for keeping that energy from ‘rock the world’ to the end of this fan con. You really are the best. Thank you for the positive energy you gave us. We'd be the Red Velvet that will come back to Manila again. Let’s see each other again. Thank you.”
Irene: “I’ll miss the Philippines’ energy, the smiles and facial expressions of Luvies. Of course, we'll come back to Manila. How about you, will you be there as well?”
