The film 'Veteran 2' (directed by Ryoo Seung Wan) has attracted over 4 million viewers within just six days of its release, hitting the break-even point during the last day of the Chuseok holiday.
According to the distributor's data from the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing system, as of 9 AM on the 18th(KST), 'Veteran 2' surpassed 4,001,565 viewers.
The movie added 1 million viewers just a day after hitting the 3 million mark.
The previous film 'Veteran' reached 4 million viewers in nine days, meaning the sequel achieved this milestone three days faster.
Actors Hwang Jung Min, Jung Hae In, and Shin Seung Hwan celebrated the milestone with a video. Inspired by the stairway action sequence, they descended a tall staircase in the video.
The 'Veteran 2' cast expressed their gratitude, saying, "Thank you to the 4 million viewers! Be careful on the stairs!" showcasing their sense of humor.
'Veteran 2' is the sequel to the 2015 hit 'Veteran,' which drew an impressive 13.41 million total viewers. The first film became iconic, popularizing lines such as "How ridiculous!"
With a 9-year gap, the anticipation for the sequel was high. Once again, Hwang Jung Min takes on the role of Seo Do Cheol, who relentlessly pursues villains, while Jung Hae In joins as a fresh new face playing Park Sun Woo.
Director Bong Joon Ho praised 'Veteran 2,' calling it "a hammer-like movie. The protagonist’s pain resonates through my bones." Director Na Hong Jin added, "It's refreshing and cool," while Director Kim Sung Soo remarked, "It showcases the ultimate in action scenes."
