A fifth trial hearing will be held on September 11th KST for Park Soo Hong’s sister-in-law, who is charged with defamation. The case is being heard at the Seoul Western District Court, following accusations made by Park Soo Hong and his wife, Kim Da Ye, against the sister-in-law, Lee.
Park Soo Hong’s side filed a defamation suit against Lee in October of last year. According to the prosecution, Lee allegedly spread false information in a group chat, claiming that Park Soo Hong had “lived with a woman during his broadcasting career.” Additionally, she is accused of defaming Park by claiming that he lied about Lee and her husband embezzling his money.
During the fourth hearing, Lee admitted she had never personally witnessed Park’s cohabitation but had heard about it from her in-laws. She also claimed she saw women’s clothing, shoes, and personal items while cleaning his house.
Lee also became emotional during the trial, expressing that her daughter had suffered greatly due to the accusations. She shared that the family had been labeled as embezzlers online, and her daughter had struggled to the point of being unable to attend school, leading to severe mental distress. She mentioned that her daughter now experiences panic attacks, particularly when riding the subway.
In January, Lee’s legal team had denied the allegations entirely, claiming there was no intent to defame and that she did not know the information was false.
In addition to this defamation case, Park Soo Hong’s brother and sister-in-law are also on trial for embezzling tens of billions of won from his management company and personal funds over a ten-year period, from 2011 to 2021.
