On August 5th, EDAM Entertainment announced that IU successfully completed her "2024 IU HEREH World Tour Concert in America," which began in Newark on July 15th and included stops in Atlanta on the 19th, Washington D.C. on the 22nd, Rosemont on the 25th, Oakland on the 30th, and Los Angeles (LA) on August 2nd.
This was IU’s first tour in North America. Despite initial uncertainty about her popularity in the region, given that she does not sing typical K-pop songs, the tour proved her strong local fan base. The tickets sold out within 10 minutes of opening.
Notably, legendary Korean diva Patti Kim, who resides in LA, attended the LA concert. Patti Kim provided a special narration for the blues-based track "Shh…" from IU’s mini-album "The Winning" released in February. After performing this song, IU expressed heartfelt respect towards Patti Kim.
Another notable figure at the tour was Zeb Ratete, an American fan of IU. He attended the Oakland concert with his wife. Ratete, who resides in California, runs a YouTube channel introducing IU’s music and Korean dramas, gaining attention from Hallyu fans. He earned the nickname "Grandpa Uaena" due to the support he received from other fans during his fan club membership process.
IU invited him to this tour, and after the concert, they had a 15-minute conversation. IU prepared gifts, including a Korean traditional fabric bow tie, ornaments, keyrings, a signed album, and a handwritten letter for him and his wife.
This world tour, which included performances in Seoul, Yokohama, Taipei, Singapore, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Manila (Bulacan), Kuala Lumpur, London, Berlin, Bangkok, and Osaka before arriving in North America, was a major topic for five months. IU met audiences in 18 cities across Asia, Europe, and the Americas, making her the first Korean female solo artist to do so. The tickets sold out quickly, with website servers temporarily down due to high demand. Kuala Lumpur saw a peak of 820,000 access attempts, and Jakarta had 630,000.
IU also performed special songs for local audiences, tailored to each city. In Yokohama and Osaka, she sang "Beautiful Dancer," "Voice Mail," and "Good Day" (Japanese version). In Taipei, she covered "The One And Only" by local band Accusefive. In Hong Kong, she performed "One Person’s Territory" by Terence Lam. In Manila, she surprised everyone with "Pasilyo" by Sunkissed Lola. In London, she sang "Like A Star" by Corinne Bailey Rae, with whom she had previously performed. In Bangkok, she covered "First Love" by NONT TANONT. In Atlanta, she cleverly changed her song "strawberry moon" to "blueberry moon" to incorporate the local specialty, blueberries. In Rosemont, her outfit featured a "rose" theme.
IU’s warm interactions with fans were notable. EDAM Entertainment mentioned that she tried to communicate with all attendees in their local languages and expressed her gratitude. She also prepared gifts for the audience, such as flowers during "Blueming" and coins during "Coin." Fans responded enthusiastically with synchronized singing in Korean, loud cheers, and surprise slogan events. Local media praised IU’s excellent vocals, spectacular performances, and musical growth.
At the final concert of the tour, IU said, "I’ve said thank you many times today, but it’s still not enough. I thank all the 'Elena' (city name + Uaena) who came to support or enjoy this world tour." She concluded by shouting, "I did it!" before leaving the stage.
Following the tour, IU’s considerate gesture towards the tour staff went viral online. She reportedly booked business class flights for all staff members returning to Korea from the US, including band members, concert planners, technical staff, makeup and costume staff, dancers, and security personnel, totaling about 100 people.
IU will conclude the tour with encore concerts on September 21-22 at the Seoul World Cup Stadium, marking the first time a solo female artist has performed at the venue. This follows her previous milestone as the first Korean female artist to perform at the Jamsil Olympic Stadium in 2022.
