According to SM Entertainment's projected third and fourth quarter plans for 2024, the company is scheduled to launch a trot idol group project reality show in the fourth quarter in partnership with TV Chosun.
The reality program, tentatively known as 'PROJECT T-5', will bring together 5 trainees from various backgrounds including former 'Mister Trot' contestants, former K-Pop trainees, and actors to form a trot idol group. The show will air simultaneously in Korea and Japan. Following its conclusion, the trot idol group is expected to embark on a tour across Korea.
Following the announcement of 'PROJECT T-5', a rumored lineup of the project's members has surfaced online. It includes:
Han Taei (born 1992): Former main vocalist of idol group MR.MR and former contestant on 'Mister Trot 2'.
Jung Yoon Jae (born 1993): Supporting actor ('Missing 2', 'Boyhood').
Shohei (born 1996): Former member of S.M.ROOKIES.
Lim Chae Pyung (born 1997): Former contestant on 'Mister Trot 2'.
Seo Woo Hyuk (born 1998): Supporting actor ('The Glory').
Additionally, the group will be produced by hitmaker Jo Young Soo, a composer and producer who has worked extensively with musicians like SG Wannabe, SeeYa, Kim Jong Kook, KCM, T-ara, etc.
Many netizens reacted with comments like,
"Why is Shohei here???"
"I thought Shohei left SM."
"Is trot really the right path for Shohei... I'll still root for him but..."
"He's still young TT. I feel bad that he didn't get to achieve his dream of debuting as a K-Pop idol TTTT."
"I hope Shohei succeeds. It was sad watching only two of the S.M.ROOKIES members debut."
"With his age and his injury and all, it was difficult for him to debut as an actual idol so if he can at least fulfill his dream of being on stage through this, it might be a good thing."
"I was curious about Shohei. So he's still at SM huh."
"It would make me happy if Shohei did well but... Is this really it..?"
"I hope this is something he wants to do out of his own will, and not because he's being forced into it..."
"If they can win over the trot fans, they can make it big."
