Jessica, a former member of Girls’ Generation, celebrated her 17th debut anniversary.
On August 7 KST, Jessica posted a message in English on her social media account saying, "A wonderful journey with Golden Stars for 17 years. Thank you for making an unforgettable, fantastic, and sparkling night. Because of you, both my sky and Seoul’s sky shone brightly. Let's keep shining together."
This message appears to be a thank-you note to her fans for celebrating her 17th debut anniversary. Recently, Jessica's fans celebrated her 17th anniversary by displaying banners that read "Jessica, congratulations on your 17th debut anniversary" along with photos. They even organized a drone show and fireworks display over the Han River with the same message.
In the post shared by Jessica, she can be seen capturing this moment on camera. Along with friends like model Irene, she enjoyed the drone show and fireworks by the Han River. It seems she was deeply touched by her fans’ heartfelt celebration, especially by the drone show that portrayed her likeness.
Earlier, the members of Girls’ Generation had gathered to celebrate their 17th debut anniversary as a group. Amidst this, Jessica's personal celebration also drew attention. Jessica debuted as a member of Girls’ Generation in 2007 but left the group in 2014 and has since pursued a solo career.
In 2022, when Girls’ Generation celebrated their 15th anniversary, they made headlines with different activities. The group announced their comeback as a complete unit and released a new album, "Forever 1," commemorating their 15th anniversary. This was their first comeback in about five years since their 2017 album "Holiday Night," and it featured all eight members.
At the same time, Jessica participated in the Chinese girl group re-debut survival program "Sisters Who Make Waves 3," where she finished in second place. "Sisters Who Make Waves 3" is an audition program where female celebrities over 30 compete to re-debut in a five-member girl group. In previous seasons, former Miss A members Fei and Jia also appeared on the show.
Jessica's participation in this program sparked controversy when she was described as a "Chinese American of Korean descent," a classification her agency, Coridel Entertainment, clarified they did not submit. Jessica's appearance as a contestant rather than a judge in a Chinese audition program, especially since she was once a member of the iconic K-pop girl group Girls’ Generation, became a hot topic. This coincidentally overlapped with the announcement of Girls’ Generation’s full-group comeback to celebrate their 15th anniversary, further drawing attention.
Girls’ Generation, who debuted in 2007 with "Into the New World," achieved massive success with numerous hit songs like "Kissing You," "Gee," "Genie," "Oh," and "Hoot," leaving an indelible mark in K-pop history. After Jessica left the group in 2014, the other members continued to maintain the group even after their contracts with SM Entertainment ended in 2017, showing their commitment to the group’s legacy.
Jessica has been in a relationship with businessman Tyler Kwon since 2013, and they have been dating for about nine years. In 2021, when asked about marriage on her YouTube channel, Jessica responded, "I should too. I’m just waiting for the right time," which garnered attention. Jessica also mentioned that if she had not debuted as a singer, she might have become a mother by now.
