Oh My Girl's Hyojung reveals early conflicts with YooA during their debut.
On August 29th, KBS Kpop's YouTube channel released a video titled "Manchae's Watermelon salad to fight the heat, EunChae's Stardiary EP.55 ." In the video, Oh My Girl's Hyojung candidly spoke about her group's new album and the early days of her career.
Hyojung described the concept of their latest album as "dreamy and wistful," and mentioned that her goal for their 10th album promotion is to have fun and stay healthy with her members, focusing more on enjoying their time together rather than setting big targets.
Known for her ever-present smile, Hyojung humorously noted, "I smile all the time except when I'm sleeping. When I'm asleep, I almost look sad." Reflecting on her decade-long journey as the leader of Oh My Girl, she admitted, "I’ve always felt like being a leader didn’t suit me. I never thought it was something I was good at. But lately, my members have been praising me, saying that my bright energy helped us bond. Hearing that, I think maybe I did the right thing after all."
When asked if she had ever gotten angry with her members, Hyojung confessed, "When I need to express my feelings, I often start by saying, 'I don’t want to say this, and I hope it doesn’t hurt you,' and then I end up crying while I talk." She revealed that YooA was the member she clashed with the most during their early days. Hyojung explained, "YooA and I had the most conflicts because she’s so individualistic. She would always dance her own way, even during group performances. I would have to remind her, 'This is a group. We’re a team.' YooA is a true artist, so sometimes she would unconsciously add an extra spin."
Hong Eunchae, the host, could relate to Hyojung's experiences and mentioned LE SSERAFIM's Huh Yunjin. She recalled, “When we were filming the music video for 'Smarts,' her ending pose was so much more dramatic than the rest of us. We all asked her, ‘Why are you doing that?’”
