Ham So Won announced on August 16 that she had divorced her husband.
Ham So Won revealed that she and her husband, Jin Hua, are already divorced. She stated, "Jin Hua and I have something we want to share. Many people are either tired or curious, so we've been thinking every day about how to handle this. Moving forward, we won't bother you with our personal story anymore," before announcing a live broadcast.
During the live stream, Ham So Won opened up about their divorce, explaining, "We got divorced around December 2022, and in March or April of 2023, we publicly disclosed that we had separated. After the announcement, we thought about it, and we couldn't bring ourselves to part ways because our daughter Hyejung is still so young."
Ham So Won further explained, "I always felt responsible for this family. I plan to meet with reporters in Korea before Chuseok in September and share more details. I'm sorry for bringing this up so late. Last week’s events weren't something I could address alone, so I hope for your understanding and acceptance," she said, apologizing for the delayed announcement of their divorce.
On the reasons for the divorce, she shared, "I made this decision 99% for our daughter Hyejung. I grew up in a household with frequent arguments and wanted to live in a quiet home without conflicts. However, I have a quick temper, and Jin Hua needs constant reassurances of love, so we often fight. I felt so guilty for Hyejung, which led me to make this decision."
Despite the divorce, Ham So Won revealed that she and Jin Hua are still living together, leaving room for the possibility of reconciliation. She explained, "I asked Jin Hua to stay until Hyejung can fully accept the situation. Jin Hua is still living with us and is trying to fulfill his responsibilities as a father. If Hyejung wants it, I am open to the idea of reconciliation. Although we are legally divorced, I can't say we are completely separated. Our past together is long, and the future remains uncertain. We are observing how things will unfold for Hyejung and our overall situation."
Ham So Won and Jin Hua married in 2017 and gained popularity as an 18-year age-gap couple through their appearances on TV Chosun's Taste of Wife. However, they paused their broadcast activities after being embroiled in a broadcast manipulation controversy. Since then, they have been active online, taking trips to Vietnam and Thailand starting in December 2022. In April of last year, Ham So Won hinted at divorce, citing "unreasonable attacks on her family by antis," but shortly after, she appeared in a live broadcast with Jin Hua, showing off their strong relationship.
The couple had repeatedly faced rumors of discord, with the most recent controversy occurring when Jin Hua posted photos on social media on August 6, claiming Ham So Won had been violent toward him, showing images of his injuries. However, the situation was later clarified when Jin Hua apologized, stating, "The injuries in the photos are unrelated to Ham So Won. I sincerely apologize," and the issue was dismissed as a misunderstanding.
