On August 28, the 22nd National Assembly of South Korea passed the 'Goo Hara Law', a law which disqualifies parents and family members who seriously neglect their duty to protect or support ancestors or descendants from inheritance rights.

The law was passed by the National Assembly with 284 members concurring and 2 members forfeiting their vote. It has been passed 6 years after the passing of the late singer Goo Hara, whose brother petitioned for the bill after Goo Hara's estranged mother attempted to claim legal rights to the singer's inheritance.

In light of the National Assembly decision, Goo Hara's brother Goo Ho In wrote on his SNS, "Cheers, it's finally been passed!! Thanks to the interest shown by many people, the law has finally passed. Everyone, please be healthy and happy during these difficult times. I express my sincerest gratitude."
