The latest episode of singer Jung Jae Hyung’s Youtube show ‘Fairy Jung Jae Hyung’ features Jeon Do Yeon, the globally-acclaimed actress.
Having her start in the entertainment industry through a commercial, Jeon Do Yeon reveals the film that there is a particular film that impassioned her as an actress.
She picks the 1999 film ‘Happy End’ directed by Jung Ji Woo, in which she co-starred with fellow veteran actor Choi Min Sik. She explains that it was the first film where a director asked for her opinions about the film and scenes, which made her more passionate to participate more ardently.
On the other hand, Jeon Do Yeon also mentions what she initially found tough to grapple with when working with director Lee Chang Dong. She worked with Director Lee on the 2007 film ‘Secret Sunshine’, in which she co-starred with fellow veteran actor Song Kang Ho. This was also the film that won her the Best Actress award at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.
Jeon Do Yeon elaborates how excited she was to work with an acclaimed director for the first time, but she was frustrated by Lee Chang Dong’s directing style, in which he does not confirm the takes with the actors. As such, Jeon felt like she was left hanging about whether she did well for her takes.
As the shoot went on and they communicated more, she eventually realized that the director was actually giving her the autonomy to take charge of her scenes as the character, rather than confirming if what she did adhered to the script and his expectations.
