MLD Entertainment, the agency behind the successful girl group Momoland, is currently grappling with severe financial difficulties, leading to significant wage arrears for its employees.
According to an investigation by Maeil Business Newspaper’s Star Today on the 17th, the company has failed to pay its staff on time, prompting most employees to resign. Currently, fewer than five employees remain at the company. Former employees who resigned due to unpaid salaries have also not received their severance pay. Despite filing complaints with the Labor Office, they have only been partially compensated.
Founded in 2015, MLD Entertainment gained prominence with Momoland, known for their catchy hits like "Bboom Bboom," "BAAM," and "Yummy Yummy Love." However, Momoland officially disbanded on January 27, 2023.
MLD Entertainment has also launched several other idol groups, including T1419 (later rebranded as TFN), Lapillus, and Horizon, but none have achieved notable success. The company's CEO, Lee Hyung-jin, is currently focusing on managing the Filipino group Horizon and is based in the Philippines. TFN, which debuted in January 2021, began disbanding procedures in February this year.
Additionally, singer Gil signed with MLD Entertainment as a producer and artist last year but has not been active. He was recently involved in a controversy linked to singer Kim Ho-joong's DUI incident in May. MLD clarified that Gil was only a witness and not implicated in any wrongdoing. Veteran singer Lee Seung-chul also signed with MLD Entertainment in 2022.
The financial turmoil and management issues at MLD Entertainment highlight the challenges faced by the company, raising concerns about its future operations and stability.
