LE SSERAFIM's journey resumes: First comeback post-Coachella controversy

AKP STAFF

LE SSERAFIM is set to make their first comeback since the vocal controversy at Coachella 2024. While concerns linger, the anticipation is even greater considering the group's determination during this hiatus.

According to their agency, Source Music, LE SSERAFIM is preparing for a comeback at the end of August. This marks their first return since releasing their third mini-album 'EASY' in February.

'EASY' achieved significant popularity, simultaneously entering the US Billboard 200 and Hot 100 charts, and performing well on domestic music charts. Another track from the same album, 'SMART,' became popular for its addictive choreography and challenge-inducing appeal. The album's concept of 'making everything look easy,' despite the challenges, showcased LE SSERAFIM's determined and 'fierce' spirit, attracting considerable attention.

The 'fierce' concept has been a core part of LE SSERAFIM's identity. Since their debut, they have tackled themes of anxiety and concerns hidden behind a confident facade with releases like 'UNFORGIVEN' and 'FEARLESS.' However, the live performance controversy at Coachella in April dealt a significant blow to this 'fierce' image, shaking their identity. The fallout has been long-lasting, with their official social media and YouTube channels still closed to comments due to malicious attacks.

Due to the unfavorable public opinion, LE SSERAFIM focused solely on album preparations during the May festival period. Nonetheless, they continued activities in Japan, hosting a fan meeting at Kobe World Memorial Hall on the 29th and 30th of last month, both of which sold out, demonstrating their enduring ticket power. On the 21st, they made a rare domestic TV appearance at the '2024 Gayo Daejeon Summer.'

During the event, LE SSERAFIM performed remixes of 'EASY' and 'SMART,' receiving praise for their refreshing summer-themed stages. Their vocal skills were also noted to have improved significantly compared to their Coachella performance.

However, debates among netizens about whether AR (audio recording) was used during the live performance persist. While the overall quality of live performances considers the harmony with AR, public scrutiny remains harsh following the previous controversy.

Source Music plans to release a documentary on the 29th, capturing the intense journey of LE SSERAFIM since their debut, coinciding with their August comeback. This documentary aims to improve public sentiment by showcasing their efforts and growth. It will highlight their continuous efforts from year-end stage rehearsals to their first US promotion and solo tour.

Public evaluation is an unavoidable challenge for idols. Once a 'label' is attached, it becomes a recurring issue to address. However, this process can serve as a stepping stone for growth.

The public should recognize that idols, like everyone else, can make mistakes and grow through effort. If LE SSERAFIM can overcome the controversy and prove their skills with their August comeback, the achievement will benefit not only the group and their agency but also provide the public with high-quality entertainment content. We look forward to seeing LE SSERAFIM receive applause for their growth and improvement.
