DJ Yesong (24, Ahn Ye Song), who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for causing a fatal accident while driving drunk in Gangnam, Seoul, has filed an appeal.
Ahn's lawyer, Ahn Wang Seon from the law firm Dongsuhnam, submitted the appeal on July 10 to Judge Kim Ji Young of the Seoul Central District Court's 25th Criminal Division, who presided over the case. The court sentenced Ahn Ye Song to 10 years in prison the previous day.
The court noted, "The victim from the first accident testified that the defendant (Ahn Ye Song) got out of the car immediately after the accident and said, 'Do I look like I drank a lot? Please overlook this just once.' She made no effort to handle the accident and did not report it to the police."
Additionally, the court said, "Despite needing to stay at the scene, she left without any explanation. She did not take the necessary protective measures required by traffic laws and fled the scene, showing an intent to escape."
The court further commented, "Although she claimed to have no memory of the accident, dashcam footage showed she conversed with the victim. Yet, she is denying the charges related to rescue measures with implausible excuses. There is also doubt about whether she is genuinely remorseful."
The court stated, "The victim from the second accident eventually died. Although the bereaved family agreed not to pursue punishment, the victim could not express his own wishes as he had passed away."
Ahn Ye Song was prosecuted for driving under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.221% at around 4:40 AM on February 3. She crashed into a motorcycle ahead of her, causing the rider's death. The 50-year-old delivery man was taken to the hospital suffering from a cardiac arrest but did not survive.
Investigations revealed that Ahn Ye Song had caused another traffic accident shortly before this fatal one and fled the scene. She was arrested at the scene of the fatal accident, and the court issued a detention warrant, citing the risk of flight.
In a trial held in June, the prosecution requested a 15-year prison sentence for Ahn.
The prosecution stated, "She caused two traffic accidents while heavily intoxicated, resulting in a fatality. There is a need for severe punishment to protect society and families from harm caused by drunk driving."
In contrast, Ahn's defense highlighted that they had reached a settlement with the bereaved family and pleaded for leniency.
Ahn's lawyer emphasized, "She has extraordinary talent in the entertainment field and has promoted national prestige with performances in China, Thailand, and Taiwan. She has deeply reflected on her actions and submitted 75 letters of apology."
