Park Bo Gum, starring in the upcoming movie 'Wonderland', recently shared insights into his on-screen chemistry with co-star Suzy and candidly addressed public reactions to rumors about their real-life relationship.
Speaking to reporters at a café in Seoul's Jongno-gu on June 4 KST, Park Bo Gum provided a glimpse into the making of 'Wonderland', directed by Kim Tae Yong.
'Wonderland' delves into the narrative of reuniting with loved ones through 'Wonderland', a virtual service employing artificial intelligence to revive deceased individuals.
In 'Wonderland', Suzy and Park Bo Gum portray a couple reminiscent of close friends. Suzy's character yearns for her boyfriend Tae Joo (played by Park Bo Gum), who faces a critical condition post-accident in the narrative. The storyline unfolds as Suzy's character, Jeong In, utilizes the Wonderland service to embody her boyfriend as an AI avatar, leading to heartfelt performances from both actors.
While Suzy and Park Bo Gum have previously collaborated as hosts for the Baeksang Arts Awards over 6 years, 'Wonderland' marks their first on-screen appearance together. Park Bo Gum acknowledged the public's enthusiastic response to their chemistry, expressing, "I'm delighted that many people view us positively." He added, "Working alongside Suzy allowed for deeper connections beyond our previous encounters as hosts. While hosting, our focus was primarily on script memorization and awards, limiting personal interactions. However, through this project, we engaged more profoundly, discussing characters and sharing insights."
Reflecting on their evolving camaraderie, Park Bo Gum shared, "As we delved into character discussions, our interactions became more profound, leading to enjoyable moments on set. I value our time spent together, pondering character intricacies and collaborating with the director and co-stars on portraying our roles authentically."
When asked about fans' wishes for them to date, Park Bo Gum chuckled, "I appreciate the positive sentiment," but dismissed the notion, emphasizing, "Suzy and I share a close friendship. However, I'm wary of causing discomfort by addressing such rumors."
'Wonderland' is set to premiere on June 5 KST.
