Actors Gong Yoo and Lee Jong Suk are making their mark with special appearances in the films 'Wonderland' and 'The Plot,' respectively.
Both actors have demonstrated exceptional chemistry with their co-stars Tang Wei and Kang Dong-won, successfully creating a powerful synergy on screen.
Gong Yoo stars as Seong-jun in 'Wonderland,' which has maintained its number one spot at the box office since its release on the 5th. He plays a character who monitors AI humans, restored after death, in the AI world of 'Wonderland.'
Within this virtual world, Seong-jun interacts with AI beings who are unaware of their true nature and communicates with the real-world architects of Wonderland. His interactions, especially with Bai Li (played by Tang Wei), who restored herself as an AI for her daughter, captivate audiences, sparking their imagination about the characters' mysterious relationship.
This has led to various speculations among viewers about their connection.
Director Kim Tae-yong, who created Seong-jun's character inspired by Gong Yoo, said, "The role of managing AI while sometimes being a friend required a blend of coldness and warmth, and no one could fulfill it better than Gong Yoo. He possesses warmth, gentleness, and a romantic tension."
Tang Wei also expressed satisfaction with their on-screen chemistry, stating, "I would like to explore a full-fledged romance with him."
Lee Jong Suk, who appeared in 'The Plot,' released on the 29th of last month, portrays a warm bromance with Kang Dong-won. His character, Jak-nun, is an old colleague and almost like a younger brother to Yong-il (played by Kang Dong-won), a contract killer who stages murders as accidents. Unlike the cold perfectionist Yong-il, Jak-nun is a delicate and gentle character, showcasing a contrasting charm that draws attention.
Director Lee Yo-seop described the unique chemistry between the two actors as "the meeting of a black beauty and a white beauty." He explained, "I sought a 'white' counterpart to Kang Dong-won's 'black,' and Lee Jong-suk was the perfect fit. The stark contrast between the two actors added a special touch to the film."
