On May 14, Seoul Gangnam Police are investigating trot singer Kim Ho-joong for allegedly fleeing the scene of a traffic accident. Kim's representative has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.
The report states that on the evening of May 9, around 11:40 PM in Sinsa-dong, Seoul, Kim allegedly changed lanes and collided with an oncoming taxi, then left the scene without dealing with the aftermath. Later, an associate of Kim visited the police station claiming to have been driving at the time; however, it was eventually admitted by Kim under police interrogation that he was the driver.
There were initial suspicions of drunk driving, but following a breathalyzer test by the police, it was confirmed that Kim was not under the influence at the time of the accident.
Kim Ho-joong has been on a national tour titled "Trot Baritone Classic Arena Tour" since April. Despite the incident, he performed in Goyang on May 11-12, and has upcoming performances in Changwon on May 18-19, and additional concerts scheduled, including with the World Union Orchestra Super Classic in the following weeks.
