Sexual objectification of girl groups comes to light amid school festivals

In a recent May 22 school festival in the Chungnam region, the emcee, a student of said school, used the water bottles that the members of girl group OH MY GIRL have drunk from as rewards, in which male students were encouraged to perform on stage in exchange for said bottles.

Voices of disapproval can be heard in the video:

"What do they need the bottles for?"

"He's really using it as a gift?"

The video made the rounds on social media and angered many, prompting the school council to issue an apology on May 25.

The council apologizes for the disturbance and emotional damage caused by such inappropriate behavior and clarifies that the impromptu action was carried out by the emcee without prior arrangement with the school or performers. They also sincerely apologize to OH MY GIRL and their fans, and to the schoolmates who are dismayed by this humiliating incident. They promise to strictly monitor future events to prevent such incidents from happening again.

The emcee has also apologized for his carelessness, explaining that he thought it’d be a nice commemorative gift in the moment. He highlighted that there were students who were disturbed by the gift handed to them, calling for the public not to attack the individuals and that he’d take full responsibility for it.
