Fresh evidence has emerged in the ongoing investigation into Kim Ho Joong's suspected involvement in a drunken hit-and-run incident. It was reported on May 28 KST that a recording of a phone call between Kim Ho Joong and his manager immediately after the accident has been uncovered.
According to reports, the police obtained this recording during the confiscation and analysis of the manager's mobile phone. The transcript of the call reveals Kim Ho Joong urging his manager to "turn yourself in instead" following the drunken hit-and-run accident.
The recording, believed to have been automatically captured by the manager's cell phone, provides crucial insight into the moments directly following the incident. It sheds light on Kim Ho Joong's immediate response to the situation and his attempt to divert responsibility.
The hit-and-run incident occurred when Kim Ho Joong allegedly crashed into a taxi on a road in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, around 11:40 PM on May 9 KST. Following the accident, Kim Ho Joong fled the scene, while his manager falsely surrendered to the police, prompting suspicion of a coordinated effort to evade accountability.
Despite initially denying any involvement in drunk driving, Kim Ho Joong later admitted to the offense through his agency, Think Entertainment, ten days after the accident. Investigations indicate that Kim Ho Joong may have been driving under the influence, with witnesses reporting that he consumed approximately three bottles of soju before getting behind the wheel.
Furthermore, discrepancies in Kim Ho Joong's account of his alcohol consumption have raised doubts about the accuracy of his statements. While he claimed to have consumed only ten glasses of soju, testimonies from witnesses suggest a significantly higher intake.
As a result, the prosecution has sought an arrest warrant for Kim Ho Joong on multiple charges, including causing injury by dangerous driving, causing death while fleeing the scene, and aiding the escape of a criminal under relevant laws. The investigation continues as authorities piece together the events leading up to and following the hit-and-run incident.
