On May 30 KST, JYP Entertainment confirmed in a statement that the MR malfunction during girl group NMIXX's performance at Shinhan University was "planned" in advance without the members knowledge.
NMIXX performed at Shinhan University's spring festival on May 27 KST. During their performance of "DICE," the MR cut out toward the end, leaving the members to sing without any music. This incident initially went viral online, highlighting the group's professionalism and excellent live vocals. However, it was revealed a day later that the malfunction was a "planned event."

Netizens had mixed reactions to this news. They commented:
"The student organization member who leaked this is really immature and now celebrities will avoid performing at their school in the future, knowing that whatever they plan will get leaked. Still, good for NMIXX for making headlines with their talent."
"It's funny, but they're confident in their skills."
"What can you do if they're good? 😂 I understand wanting to show off when you're this good."
"If they have the skills to show off, what's the problem?"
"LE SSERAFIM can learn from this."
"This isn't controversial.... but who admits that they did it on purpose?"
"They get criticized whether they perform well or not. Live singing is pure confidence! Not everyone can be world-class!"
"Why is this even controversial? They sang really well. If this is a problem then you probably have an issue with fake pro wrestling too."
"Getting hate comments means NMIXX is doing something right."
"People will do anything to go viral."
"Why is this an issue? The real issue are idols who are bad at singing, but NMIXX is known for being great live singers. It's a marketing tactic. The reactions in the videos were great, with people saying 'Wow!' The only ones complaining are that one group's fans and the company's comment section trolls. 😂 If this is controversial, then LE SSERAFIM's Coachella performance should have been too. They just proved their skills, and it was amazing."
"Is JYP running out of marketing ideas? It's true that they tried to deceive the public."
