Stray Kids made history as they made their Met Gala debut, marking the first time a K-pop group attended as a collective. While the boys garnered much attention for their collective appearance at the renowned Met Gala, many drew notice of the racist remarks hurled at Stray Kids.
After the videos went viral, many K-pop fans expressed anger and criticized the unprofessional demeanor of the paparazzi.
Korean netizens were angered and expressed their discontent by commenting:
"This is absolutely not something to laugh about. They weren't discriminated against because they're short; it's because they're Asian guys. When they were told to jump, it wasn't because they were short and couldn't be seen; rather, it felt more like they were being told to make a spectacle. One person allegedly said 'I feel like I'm going to catch COVID,' they were laughing while saying, 'Speak Korean properly' smh."
"They're blatantly discriminating them like that...When they hear 'K-pop idols', they immediately look down on them. They don't like it when K-pop idols flood their parties."
"Those racist guys did the same to BTS before."
"When they watch the video, it's not about being short, it's more like, 'Come on, dance!' or 'Show us some performance!' And they're complaining their expressions are so robotic, and they act like they're going to catch COVID, coughing and all... They distance themselves and completely ignore them, treating them like clowns. It feels like they're saying, 'Everybody jump!' while laughing."
"I hope there aren't any people laughing while reading this. It's racial discrimination after all."
It's so disappointing and pathetic, I feel bad for them. I do hope they have developed a thick skin by now but it's still very sad. I'm not their fan but I think they are super talented and well-rounded men. I hope they know both their fans and even non-fans have their back and don't stand for this kind of awful behavior. These photographers are just awful, I hope that - despite this - they still had a good experience at the met gala.
